This class provides the student with a comprehensive overview of the Avid interface and how to optimize the interface for forensic video examinations. Forensic topics include evidence handling procedures, note taking, evidence examination techniques, case deliverables, presentation techniques, and report writing. Each of the basic forensic filters available for Avid are explained and used extensively while students work on video cases. Tips and tricks for working in Avid with video evidence will also be explored. Students will receive a manual with step-by-step instructions of all areas covered in the class.

In this course students will learn:
  • Video evidence handling procedures
  • Avid Xpress forensic interface configuration
  • Overall forensic examination workflow and forensic tools
  • Evidence preparation for print and presentation

Topics Include:

Day 1
  • Starting forensic video casework
  • Setting up and starting Avid for forensics
  • Receiving and handling video evidence
  • Capturing analog video evidence for examinations in Avid
  • Capturing digital video evidence for examinations in Avid

Day 2
  • Examining video from CCTV security systems
  • Preparing to process video evidence with Avid
  • Processing video evidence using Avid effects
  • Processing video evidence using forensic filters

Day 3
  • Exporting graphic files from Avid for print
  • Exporting video files from Avid
  • Creating court presentations
  • Archiving cases from Avid

Computer Skills

Basic computer skills are required to complete this training.

Participation
Class participation is encouraged. Multiple hands-on exercises will be included during each module.
